Executing Stored Procedure in Excel sheet

In normal course we are required to display the data of a data table or data from the SQL view into the excel sheet in form of a normal table or in the form of a Pivot table.

And for this requirement, we need to create a SQL connection and refer to that table/view.

As shown in the below screen shot, go to the Data tab, click on “From Other Sources” and create a connection to the desired Server by providing the required credentials and then navigate throgh the wizard to select the required table/view.

Now if we need to execute some stored procedure into excel then

  • Go to Data tab of the excel.
  • Click on Connections option.
  • Select the already created connection or click on Add to create a new connection.
  • Click on Properties button.
  • Click on Properties button.
  • Go to Definition tab to specify the name of the stored procedure to be executed.
  • Click Ok.
  • Select whether to display the data into a table or a pivot table.
  • Close the workbook connections wizard.
